Understanding UK Compliance for B2B Outreach

8 minutes7 steps

UK B2B outreach has specific rules. Getting them right protects your reputation and keeps you on the right side of the law. This guide covers the essentials so you can prospect with confidence.

1

Know the difference

Corporate subscribers (Ltd companies, PLCs and LLPs) can receive unsolicited B2B marketing emails. Sole traders and partnerships need prior consent. LimeProspect flags this automatically on every prospect so you always know which rules apply.

2

Use the Corporate Only filter

Toggle this in the filter panel to only show companies you can email without consent. It's the fastest way to build a compliant outreach list. Any sole traders or partnerships are excluded automatically.

3

Manage your suppression list

Go to Settings, then Compliance. Upload any existing suppression lists in CSV format. LimeProspect checks against this list before any outreach, ensuring you never contact someone who has already opted out.

4

Set your lawful basis

For each prospect, LimeProspect records your lawful basis for processing: legitimate interest, consent or contract performance. This documentation supports your GDPR accountability obligations and is available for audit at any time.

5

Include unsubscribe links

Every email sent through LimeProspect automatically includes an unsubscribe link. Opt-outs are added to your suppression list immediately. There's nothing to configure; it works out of the box.

6

Handle data requests

If someone requests access to their data or asks for deletion, go to Settings, then Compliance, then DSAR to process the request. LimeProspect provides templates and workflows to help you respond within the required timeframes.

7

Check deliverability

Go to Settings, then Deliverability to verify your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Good authentication helps your emails reach inboxes rather than spam folders. LimeProspect checks your records automatically and flags any issues.
